Centre for Social Justice & Voluntary Action (CSJ&VA)

The Centre for Social Empowerment and Equity was established vide GO Ms No. 439 (PR & RD) Department, dated 17.12.2008 by the State Government at TGIRD, Hyderbaad. And it was inaugurated by Sri. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development (RD) Government of India on 30th December 2008. The primary function of the Centre was to monitor the progress of schemes and expenditure in respect of SC/ST Sub-Plan and capacity building of SC/ST Elected Representatives of PRIs.

Later on, as per the proceedings of the Commissioner, TGIRD, the centre name renamed as Centre for Social Justice & Voluntary Action (CSJ&VA) on November, 2012.

The paradigm shift of the center to study various constraints hampering the flow of benefits intended for bridging the gap between the members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities with the main stream of the society and to improve their awareness levels and also to enhance their capabilities in choosing sustainable livelihoods.

Focus/Objectives:

  • Build the Capacities of Local Body Elected Representatives, PRI Functionaries especially SC/ST Representatives of PRIs to ensure Social Justice and Economic development of marginalized sections of the society
  • Create awareness about Social Empowerment and Equity among Elected Representatives of PRIs and Government Officials, Youth Volunteers, Members of CBOs and NGOs.
  • Observe and assess the progress of the schemes for development of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe for Social Empowerment & Equity.
  • Develop training material and modules
  • Develop and submit proposals to Govt/Corporates/NGOs for funding support

Activities of the Centre

  • PESA Act Training

  • Legal awareness to marginalized sections and on their right of Pro-poor Act.
  • Access to the Justice and free Legal Aid related
  • Organize Venue based Training Programmes for the Tribal Welfare Department, Minority Welfare Department, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, SCERT and Samagra Sikshana.
  • Key Projects / Programmes Handled

  • Organized the National Training programme for SLMTs “Prevention of Land Alienation” under PESA in Scheduled Area
  • Conducted Legal awareness and access to the justice for marginalized sections – Constitutional fellows of Medak, Sangareddy, K.B. Asifabad districts.
  • Conducted Capacity Building Programme on “Drug Abuse Prevention” to PRI Functionaries sponsored by National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, New Dehi.
  • Conducted Capacity Building Programme on “Social Defence Issues” to PR&RD Functionaries sponsored by National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi.
