Centre for Women and Child Development (CW&CD)

The Centre of Women and Child Development was created in 1998 for conducting need based Capacity Building Programs on Women Empowerment, Gender Equality, Gender Budgeting, Legal Awareness on Women & Child Rights, Health and Nutritional care of Women and Children etc. for functionaries of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Elected Representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions, VOs, NGOs and SHG Women.

Vision:

Then is envisaged as an instrument to take care of all training needs of the state level stakeholders and provide necessary inputs on the concepts related to Gender and Gender Budgeting to institutionalize gender sensitive planning and budgeting for the holistic empowerment of women

Objectives

  • To enhance the knowledge and skills of the Panchayat Raj Functionaries on the handling Gender related issues
  • To raise legal awareness on women’s and children’s rights for their protection and development.
  • To empower Women Elected Representatives (EWRs) by building their understanding of social issues, job responsibilities, and relevant legislation.
  • To improve the capacity of SHG women and NGO representatives in addressing violence against women, child abuse, and human trafficking.

Activities of the Centre

Key Activities:

  • Capacity-building programs on women empowerment, gender equality, gender budgeting, legal awareness, and health and nutrition.
  • Training for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development functionaries, elected representatives, NGOs, and SHG women.
  • Development of training materials on gender, gender-friendly governance, SHG-PRI convergence, and child rights.
  • Maintenance of “Blooms Crèche” for TGIRD employees’ children and program participants.
  • Formation of an Internal Compliance Committee to ensure a safe working environment

On Going Activities

  • Nodal Centre: CWCD is the designated Nodal Centre for Gender Budgeting in Telangana, recognized by the Department of Women and Child Development & Senior Citizens.
  • Training Programs: Programs include Social Defense Issues, TG Act 2019, Healthy Village (LSDG Theme-2), Maternal & Child Health, Drug Abuse Prevention, Child-Friendly Villages (LSDG Theme-3), and Engendered Development (LSDG Theme-9)
  • Empowerment Initiatives: Leadership and communication skills for EWRs, workshops on agricultural entrepreneurship for women under the “Mahila Krishi Udayamita” initiative.

Key Projects / Programmes

  • UN Women Project (Phase II) (2016–2018): Implemented in Adilabad and Mahabubnagar. Focused on gender-responsive governance and access to rights and entitlements.
  • Bala Sabhas & Women Gram Sabhas: Implemented in collaboration with NIRDPR and UNICEF in Bhadradri Kothagudem
  • STRC-NACO (2010–2013): Trained 11,934 NGO staff working under APSACS on HIV/AIDS prevention for high-risk groups.
  • CHETANA Project: Trained 43,500 SHG women on HIV/AIDS awareness with the State AIDS Control Society
  • AASHA Phase-I: Training of Trainers (ToT) for one lakh AIDS prevention activists.
  • ICDS Teachers’ Training: Refresher training for Anganwadi Teachers in tribal areas.
  • Evaluation Study: Quality care analysis of family planning surgeries in 23 districts of the former Andhra Pradesh.
